Battle Log of Operation 513 at Toowong on Tuesday Feb 4, 2025 from 1230-15400

You may wonder how come only two pictures were taken? and posted! Yes it is. Because I forgot to bring my only iPhone as such I asked Johnny my forever gospel outreach team mates to take the opening photo after the opening prayer. And the other was a picture he took for me.

in Hind sight, the all knowing God knew that I only needed to two people today, one Indian born man who came to Australia at the age of 4 years old, so his ethnic identity is more local Aussie that Indian. we shared briefly before his bus arrived in 2 minutes. Then next, there were very few people and most of them were Chinese so I let Johnny to chat to them in Mandarin. My chance came at last with Ahmed, a man from Djibouti (east of Ethopia). He claimed himself a Catholic Christian, but with very heavy pro-Muslim and Anti Christ background. So his faith system is very mixed and uncleared. It also explained why he really has spent many times to read the Bible and other religious writing with a view to find an unified sete of faith believe. God actually let us met over 1 years ago here, and he still remember me despite I could not be sure who he was. His understanding of the Bible is very biased often time reading it out of context and without a big pictures. He even accused Jesus also have sin and his example was Jesus explicitly reject to help a Canaan woman in Phoenicia. I explained patiently with him that it was actually a tactic of Jesus to use initial rejection to test and train His disciple if their attitude toward outreaching and relating to gentile for gospel has been firmly changed. In effect, all the disciples failed the test and thought Jesus now was doing the right thing as per the ritual law of Jewish people to keep gentile out of their reach in their life. So Jesus at the end still entertain the request of the Canaan woman to heal her daughter as he had done these many times before to all sort of gentile people.

It ended up like a religious education class for me to answer all the query of Ahmed, which hopefully many have changed the mindset of Ahmed to look at the Bible in a oneness unison manner. If it was not Johnny calling me to leave when time was up, Ahmed and I may go on much longer. His seriousness to seek the truth is adorable though obviously he lacks the real salvation of Jesus so that there is still no indwelling of the Holy Spirit in his heart to guide and enlighten him to understand the Bible correctly.

God is praise worthy to reconnect me with Ahmed for such meaningful apologetic conversation.

It’s been an encouraging month.  I actually have a few details to talk about for this report (rather than general memories and pointing to the pictures).

So, I took 2 weeks leave, which was refreshing.  I watched a lot of cricket (because it’s free to air on TV in NZ at the moment) - which I find very relaxing.  I even went to a local game to sit on the bank and chill.

But, we are back to work again.  It was wonderful to have Carole from the UK join us for a couple of outreaches in Riccarton this month - I hope you got home safely!

I want to start with the biggest encouragement.  It occurred 2 days ago, during our Friday afternoon in the city.  Roger was with me.  Due to the loudness of the Buskers Festival event happening at the Bridge of Remembrance, we moved down to the other end, corner of Cashel and Colombo.

I ended up in a long conversation right at the end of the outreach.  So I was blessed with an extra 30 minutes of gospel ministry.  A young guy went past whom I stopped with the polite but deep question: “can I ask you, what do you think happens after life?”  He was keen to engage.  We were in the hot sun, and so we moved back into the shade - he was leaning against a shop window for the whole chat.

He was resistant, yet open.  He was trying to play the Atheist card, and so a lot of the conversation was spent reasoning with him on that.  But he also hated the idea of punishment (understandable because we love our sin).  Instead he thinks people should be given therapy (amazingly, there is mercy available instead!).  I didn’t let these issues distract from the meat and potatoes: the law and the gospel.

Near the end of this conversation I heard someone say, “Glen, is that you?”.  I turned and looked at a couple of guys.  One of them said, “It’s me, Byron, do you remember me?”.  Initially I didn’t, but then slowly my memory came back.  It must have been about 2 years ago.  Byron had been in Cathedral Square listening to the preaching (of other ministers, not us) and had made a profession of faith.  Later (or was it the next week?), he was at the Bridge of Remembrance and I was able to have a gospel conversation.  I was able to use our standard check questions to make sure he was really understanding the gospel.  Things were clicking for him.  He even came to my local churches gathering the following Sunday.  I remember my Pastor and I were encouraging him to join a new believers small group.  But sadly he moved to Ashburton (I think it was) and we lost touch.

Anyway, he said to me, “We were talking about you this morning.  I want to let you know, I just got baptised, I’m going to Grace” (I assume he means Grace Vineyard, a local church).  I was overjoyed!  He introduced me to his friend, and he wanted to talk more, but he could see I was in the middle of a gospel conversation with someone else and decided to leave me to that.  But he said he would catch up with me again and wanted to know what my street schedule was.

Glory to God!  One person ploughs, another sows, another waters, but God brings the increase!  We can rest in our labour and leave God to His.  I hope to see Byron again soon and learn more about his journey.

Going back to the young man that I was talking to, he had watched this whole exchange.  I think it impacted him too.  He ended up by saying, “actually, I’ve really appreciated this conversation”.  And then he said something that surprised me, “I’m thinking of joining a youth group”  I was very surprised by this change of heart!  Even in the face of resistance, we just don’t know what’s going inside of a person.

Another very encouraging conversation this month was with a young lady at the Riccarton bus stops.  She watched me approach a guy and listened to our brief exchange, so she knew what I was about.  When I approached her, she was polite but hostile.  I wasn’t put off, and she was happy to talk, so I sat down next to her (you often spend time sitting on the pavement when you do street outreach).

She tried to shock me, by saying she was a Satanist.  I didn’t flinch, I just asked her, what kind of satanist she was, a philosophical one, or a spiritual one.  From there we had a decent chat.  She was still hostile, and I had to do a lot of listening.  But slowly I was able, with God’s help, to help her think through some of the things she was saying.  By the end of the chat, she was calm (glory to God), and yet challenged.  It turns out she is also ‘gay’, and using Psychedelics (a very deceptive sin).  I rejoiced over this chat, because she also came to understand the serious nature of her sin and the amazing mercy of Jesus.

Of course, there were many other wonderful chats over the month.  Just one more that I want to mention.  I think it occurred on the same day as the previous chat I mentioned.  I was talking to 2 bright University students (they were girls).  One was studying communications, and the other biology.  Their world views were of their own creation (idolatry), but they were a mix of atheism with eastern influence (reincarnation, etc).  The conversation centered on how we know God exists.  They came at me hard, but I stuck to my guns.  At multiple times I would say, “fault the logic”, and they would go silent as they could see I had already addressed their arguments (all glory to God).  I was able to touch on the law and the gospel, but they weren’t open to it at all.  Eventually one of the girls said to the other, “hey, we have an appointment at five thirty, right?”.  The other girl looked at her strangely and said, “No”.  She didn’t get the hint, she wanted out of this chat.  I understood and so I gave her the out, I think my job was done for the time being, they had plenty to consider.

Anyway, I’ll leave it at that.  We are still very busy with online outreach: responding to an endless stream of conversations via Instagram and TikTok Messenger (and other social media platforms), training people for online evangelism, and having online video chats of our own.  This is all via needGod.net, led by Ryan.  I leave one TikTok comment (as a picture) I captured during the month, for your encouragement.

Next month we have 2 special outreaches coming up: a week of outreach in Dunedin in conjunction with OAC and Cornerstone International Bible Church, and then a week or so in the Philippines.  PLEASE pray: 1) that we would be a blessing to the church, 2) for favour with authorities, 3) that the lost would understand the gospel, and finally 4) that God would be glorified.  Please also pray for the interactions between Christians in organising and conducting these outreaches, that there would be understanding and love in spite of disagreement on secondary issues and methods.

Battle Log of Operation 513 at Sunnybank on Wednesday January 29, 2025 from 1300-1500

Today is the Chinese New Year Day, or the first day of the year of snake.

歲首年終,龍去蛇來,祝願大家:At the end of the year, the dragon is gone and the snake is coming. I wish you all:

靈巧像蛇,馴良像鴿子。(馬太福音10:16)Wise as serpents, innocent as doves. (Matthew 10:16)

This means that we need to be as shrewd and agile as snakes, knowing how to act according to circumstances and to adapt to changes at any time. However, we also need to be like doves, with good and pure intentions. It is true that “you should not have the intention to harm others, but you must be on guard against others”, so the Bible reminds us again and again: “Be careful so that no one especially Satan may deceive you.

Edwin was occupied by family affair to take care of in law on the eve of her returning to China. So only Johnny and Hung were available. As for Hung, he hurt his back for doing over an hour of garden tidy up as such he retired earlier. But all in all, it was a good start for the Gospel outreach ministry that the team in majority keep having at least one to serve as their commitment to God in the long haul.

For the shorter time of about an hour of street outreach. Hung made following approaches: -

1) Chatted with an Australian Born Mainliner high school kid that does not speak Chinese, used Australian slang ,"fair dinkum' as gag to convey the message that we have to be perfect for admission to heaven.

2) Then connected with an Australian born Japanese girl of UQ first year. My Japanese is better than her. Also used the same fair dinkum slang.

3) Then approached a Family of 3 with a young kid migrated to Australian from Fujian. Chatted mainly with the father though using the tract as a gift of cartoon pictures to the kid first. The conversation went well and the father appeared very open and receptive to the gospel message.

4) Last but not the least I connected with a Fiji born Chinese but he could speak fluent Chinese. He is non religious but has studied Bible of both the Mormon and Biblical version. His interaction and response again is all positive.

Battle Log of Operation 513 at Sunnybank on Wednesday January 28, 2025 from 1300-1500

Today is Chinese New Year Eve so, a time stamp to close another chapter of our life on mission with God year in year out. It was still a very hot day of high noon with scorching heat near and around the Toowong Bus Stop. People tended to high behind the covered booth under the shade.

I got to Toowong bus stop a bit later than usual as I have to deliver stuff to the Toowong Baptist Church ready for their meeting tomorrow that I am not available to attend. But when I arrived by myself (all others are not available to day because of the Chinese New Year Eve family reunion affair) the bus stop was empty except with one lady sitting on the bench under the scorching sunshine. It was apparently a divine appointment as my chat with Lawrence an Australian Born Sri Lankan lasted over half an hour which is too unusual. She is a QUT student as such she was taking a bus to go home, not to UQ, that could explain that route may be not a frequent one compare to those heading for UQ. She is non religious but is very open minded, friendly and polite in conducting interactive talk with me. She like majority of the good persons, have not thought of the consequence of being good but imperfect in her human character. The gospel message does present to her an one of a kind rational logic that every human being, as long as we are not perfect, may all need external help to rectify the effect of imperfection or sin. At the end, she graciously ask for a tract and promise to ponder this important issue by herself. I though her had come , but later found out she was still left alone at the bus stop perhaps missing her bus because of our long conversation. I any way, did not want to give her pressure and wanted to leave her alone for personal meditation. So I called off the outreach earlier than usual.

Battle Log of Operation 513 at Sunnybank on Wednesday January 22, 2025 from 1300-1500

Oh, what a scorching hot day with temperature soaring up to 37/8C at Sunnybank. Even my car issued an extreme heat warning. But defying such lethal weather conditions, all four of the Gospel Street outreach warriors still assemble to serve at Sunnybank. There were obvious team work orchestrated by God through the work of the Holy Spirit letting us to first get connected then by the move of the Spirit we referred the target to a most suitable team mate. Sometime, the Spirit also will lead us to meet those we chatted before for follow up chat. All in all, it was a real demonstration of on mission with God as a body of Christ. Recap below was the Battle Log of Hung.

1) Two young man originally attending Joy Methodist but now have switched to CCCCB Cooper Plains. They are keen in the faith and have assurance of salvation by concept, but when pushed deep, they still could not stand firm to have 100% assurance. It was a pity their bus came, so could wait for the next divine encounter.

2) Next was an ABC mature young man at his 30. His parent is from HKG. He appeared polite to keep listening but his heart was not open and message shared remain skeptical to his own perception. Could only pray for God's way and timing.

3) Then connected with an India coming for study at UQ, despite he is of Hinduism faith, but he has good attitude to listen and showed a certain degree of receptiveness to the Gospel message admitting every one need repentance and salvation.

4) Then connected with Ethan again whom I met for the first time two weeks ago. He is a new convert for one year and is attending SIC. I skip the gospel message first but proceed to check for his assurance of salvation which is only at 60 % level. Since he was only waiting to meet a friend here so, I had more time to clarified his incomplete understanding about salvation by grace thru faith that no one can earn by our limited good deeds but has to 100% rely on the work of Jesus dying for us and taking our place to receive the eternal death punishment of our sins. I took the chance to chip in more basic doctrinal teachings that had caught his attention and interest even after his friend had arrived. He thanked for my sharing from the bottom of his heart and joyfully took selfie with me.

5) Then I was led to approach a dating couples of Chinese girl and local Aussie boy. They are approachable and willing to listen. Just barely have time to share the nutshell of the gospel to them when their bus arrived.

6) Then a group of school kids suddenly turned up and Johnny grabbed the chance to preach to the group and I was moved to quickly partner with him to hand out tracts to all the kids just in time when their bus arrived.

7) Then Edwin first approached an elderly lady Yang from Tsingdao , China who has migrated to Australia marrying to a local Aussie man. She originally excused not to chat as she needed to push the trolley to the collect depot. I volunteered to do it for her so that Edwin could keep on with the chat. When I returned, Johnny also joined in and found out that she is familiarized with Shaun Bao and remain on contact for devotional text. I chipped in to acknowledge I know Shaun and then took over the chat. She indicated she is from Christian family back in China. But she only attend local Aussie church sparingly. I any how test her assurance of salivation and found out that she does not know clearly the bible teaching of salvation by faith through grace but keep using personal divine healing experience as ground for her salvation status. It took a hard time to clarify it is all because of the work of Jesus dying for us.

8 ) Next was two grade 9 high school kid from China of which one is from Lanzhou蘭州by the name of Jiang江 . We quickly built rapport and he seemingly was not alerted to reject Gospel, so he behaved very open and receptive to the gospel to the extent he did not mind to have selfie with me.

9) Last but not the least, I was led to approach another elderly lady from Mainland China who has migrated to Australia for 50 years.

Pity the bus came to cut our Gospel conversation short.

Battle Log of Operation 513 at Sunnybank on Wednesday January 15, 2025 from 1300-1500

Today the Toowong Gospel Outreach Squad reduced to one person again as all others were not available. Also, there was extreme heat warning making the concrete based bus stop appeared like a furnace of 38C rather than the nominal 31C temperature. Nevertheless, I still served for over an hour by myself with amazing divine encounters as recap below: -

1) Baha from Iraq now doing a PhD was the first I was led to approach despite time left was minimal, he appeared very open and friendly not mind at all for me to share about Jesus. He may plan to stay after his study as such the analogy of Migration needing a "Perfect" clean record of no crime committed in country of origin, even shop lifting or spitting such petty crime, once convicte4d and recorded then the person will no longer be perfect any more in terms of Crime free status as such will be disqualified for migration or overseas study. He was gracious enough to take selfie with me.

2) Then I tried to approach an India woman but she was too scared to allow me to have a chat with her.

3) Next was a Chinese Mainlander girl 大陸女戒備, she appeared nervous and skeptical to be noticed chatting with me. But still tried to relax her down to keep the gospel conversation onwards till her bus came.

4) Next also a Mainlander girl who claimed that I had chatted with before. I tested if she got the meaning of the gospel message which obviously was not fully understood yet. I revised the message for her but it seems that the spiritual bondage of her declared Taoism faith 道教was holding her up to open her spiritual eyes. So despite rationally she understood my logic that every one need Jesus unless you are perfect. 明白但心未開

5) Then I caught up with a Fiji Indian mixed Christian lady. But it seems that she does not fully understand the gospel still thinking good deeds it self is OK.

6) Then I caught up with a local Aussie girl. She thought God will not accept her as she is a gay person. I used fair dinkum to chip in delightful mood and she then turned ok to chat. Yet the bus came and was barely able to share the nutshell of the gospel.

7) Then caught up with a tall guy from Xinjian新疆, China. said he already had a good chat with Rev Ding 丁牧聊過 last week and the memory is still fresh and he kept the tract. So it was good for me to follow up with a revision for him.

Battle Log of Operation 513 at Sunnybank on Wednesday January 15, 2025 from 1300-1500

It was again a very fruitful afternoon doing street outreach as a team of four i.e. Johnny , Edwin, Ann & Hung with heap of conversations especially the last one with Brother Liu from China who is keen to study Theology in a more systematic way, so I took the chance to introduce him to Kairos which I reckon is the best comprehensive study of God mission and His requirement for us to work with him leading a life on mission with God. Recap below was some of the meaningful conversation.

1) After letting the team to settle down , my first approach was to Natarsha who actually came from Cairns belonging to the Wakaja tribe and Bunda Bunda clan. She is sort of Christian but obviously lack discipleship teaching and her assurance of salvation is 80%. I took all the time I have (she even skipped her bus to keep talking with me) to clarify and helped her to understand fully about salvation by grace through faith all because of Jesus sufficient redemptive work that readily guarantee to us to reconcile with God as such to have received 100% back our heavenly citizenship. She is a very humble and willing learner and rejoiced to know I may go to Cairns in August for mission with the Yarrabah Church.

2) Next was Adam whom I met and chatted several time, but to day Ann invited him to know us in person and have longer chat first with me and then Johnny. Basically his understanding of the Bible and salvation is very fragmentated if not incomplete. His past life experience has caused him much traumatized impact to his mental as well as spirituality. Johnny admitted he only lend a listening ears to Adam to let him feel respected and acceptance. We all pray that in times we will adjust and correct all those problematic understanding of faith and Bible. It was great Ann invited him to yum cha afterwards providing some sort of assertion therapy.

3) Then I have a comparatively long chat with a Filipino lady of Catholic background, and obviously she all is lacking 100 % assurance of salvation which was clarified.

4) Joanna from Taiwan is a non-believers. But she was open and humble to listen to the full gospel sharing and found it very reasonable and logical to know that good is not good enough that we are all imperfect sinner that need the salvation of Jesus to cleanse our sin.

5) Lastly it was Liu as mentioned above. He possibly is the first one who ask voluntarily to go to church with a purpose to learn more about Biblical Doctrine and theology.

Battle Log of Operation 513 at Toowong on Tuesday January 14, 2025 from 1230-1400

It was over joy to have four people turning up today at Toowong, i.e. Johnny, Rev Ding Hwa Jen, Ann Yeo and Hung. We jokingly thanks God for doubling or gospel outreach force from 2 to 4.

It is a privilege to have met Rev Ding and teamed up with Rev Ding to be on mission with God for street gospel outreach at Toowong. him. The powerful work of God on Rev Ding through the divine election of the Holy Spirit was a clear sign of God grace to use him on his first debut of Street Outreach as His great ambassador for the gospel in action.

We can see clearly that despite I might have chatted with that guy of Chinese and Korean mixed blood three times before, I never was able to find this out but just kept sharing gospel with him to an extent, it was initially used as an excuse to decline the 4th approach by Rev Ding to him. But see how subtle was the omniscience God using Rev Ding to have discovered his identity as a Chinese and Korean cross breed like Rev Ding himself, as well as his son, that this guy could not deny it was really God at work to match them up for gospel sharing. I could see God used all this miracle after miracle to move and call Rev Ding to give it a go for engaging in street outreach like God has called Johnny, Edwin and me to do.

Recap below is the Battle Log of Hung:

1) UQ Student Chen from Shanghai, welly connected because of my adventurous travel experience in the early 1973 to Shanghai. The work of the Holy Spirit was obvious to open him up to become more receptive to the gospel message, especially the fact that no one is perfect and we all need a savior to help cleanse our sin for reconciling with God.

2) Next was a Brazilian girl once studied at Griffith but now graduated and earned PR by finding a job here. She is non-religious, but appeared receptive to the Gospel Message.

India tract only

3) Then I connected with a local Aussie but studying Philosophy and is now doing a PhD degree on Hegel, same as the specialty of my 2nd elder Brother. He also appeared very open and receptive and cannot deny a bit of the logic I put forth to prove that no one is perfect and we all need an external agent to help making us perfect in terms of sin free record. Pray that he will submit to the Spirit and lay down his rational mind to accept the faith by grace.

4)Then I was led to connect with another Mainlander from Henan which I use Sanmenxia , one of the Orphanage project in Henan to build rapport with him to explain the issue that being a good person with lot of charity work still will not help a bit for us to earn the admission to Heaven.

5) Then I was lewd to approach an Indian woman, she heard of William Carey, though still not yet a Christian. Time also ran out for me to carry on with the gospel sharing conversation so a tract at the end was given.

6) Last but not the least, I connect with yet another cross bleed lady with parents from Australia and Philippine. She also is not yet a believer and I was just able to share her the nutshell of the gospel.

Okay, this report was supposed to come out on Sunday the 5th of Jan.  But at the last minute I decided to take some R&R to recover a bit from the spring of special outreaches.  I’m back on deck now and so let me update you with how the outreaches for Dec 2024 went.

But first, I just want to take a moment to remember Stephen Ripley, who sadly passed from this earth on the 16th of December.  Stephen and his wife Margaret regularly joined us for the abortion/gospel outreach we used to run outside the hospital.  It was an honour to be able to serve next to Stephen, and am looking forward to seeing him again when I join him in graduation to heaven!  My condolences to Margaret & family at this time.

So, I can’t really remember the details of my gospel conversations during December.  So, I’m going to let the pictures I dredged up do most of the talking instead.

We had one special outreach.  It was the boxing day gospel tract outreach.  It was great to have Martin from Hamilton with me again.  He is usually in Christchurch for holidays around this time of year.  Between us we were able to hand out about 3 to 4 hundred Christmas tracts in 2 x 2 hour outreaches: Riccarton in the morning, and in the city in the afternoon.  It was pouring with rain in the afternoon, but that didn’t stop the people out bargain hunting - and getting a bargain they didn’t expect too: the gospel!  Even though the focus was on distributing tracts, I still had many gospel conversations too.

Well, I’ll leave it at that.  No special outreaches for the rest of January.  Instead I’ll enjoy getting back into my regular routine of street and online outreach.  Please continue to keep the Christchurch outreach team in prayer!
